Rhinoplasty / Nose

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is used to change the shape of the nose and create more harmony between the nose and the rest of the face. Rhinoplasty can increase or decrease the size of the nose, reduce the nostrils, change the shape of the tip or the septum, or modify the space between the nose and the lips. It can also correct some trauma or respiratory problems.

A successful rhinoplasty is the one that creates greater facial harmony in the patient and in which the nose is not seen as an “operated” nose.

Who is a good candidate for a rhinoplasty?

If you are a person looking to improve their appearance and have a good general health, including psychological stability, you can consider having a rhinoplasty.

The most important thing is to have realistic expectations about the results you can achieve, so talking to your surgeon is essential. You can use our simulator so you can see how you would look after a rhinoplasty. The surgeon should explain the procedure in detail, show you before and after rhinoplasty photos and talk to you about the real results you can expect. You should also find out about the price of rhinoplasty for your specific case.

Nose surgery. Rhinoplasty

A rhinoplasty usually lasts between one and two hours and is usually carried out under general anesthesia, although it can also be performed under local anesthesia and sedation. The patient normally spends one night in the hospital after the intervention.

The procedure of a rhinoplasty consists of separating the skin from its support of bone and cartilage to sculpt that support and then adapt the skin to this new shape. The surgeon can do the rhinoplasty from inside the nose with small incisions inside the nostrils or from the outside making a small incision.

At the end of the rhinoplasty, a plaster and plugs will be placed in the nostrils to preserve the new shape of the nose and stabilize the nasal septum.

After rhinoplasty

After the rhinoplasty you will notice the swollen face and nose discomfort but these discomforts will disappear with the passage of days and medication. During the first day you should lie down with your head elevated and for the next 3 or 4 days sleep with your head slightly incorporated. The bruising and swelling will disappear almost completely after 2 weeks.

A day or two after the rhinoplasty the plugs will be removed from the nose and after a week or two at the most the plaster and stitches will be removed. Two days later you will feel much better and after a week you can return to normal activity. In any case, you will have to avoid some physical activities during the first weeks after rhinoplasty, such as swimming or jogging, and you should be careful when you touch your nose and wash your face.

Any intervention presents risks of complications, such as infection or reactions to anesthesia, but in a rhinoplasty they are not common and are usually of little importance. It is very important to follow the instructions of the surgeon and his team before and after rhinoplasty to minimize the possibility of these complications. After a rhinoplasty there are usually no visible scars but in some cases small red dots appear in the area.

The results

Our greatest success is to ensure that after rhinoplasty the patient feels comfortable with his new facial harmony, in a natural way, without showing an “operated” nose.

The first days after a rhinoplasty can be difficult since you will have discomfort and you will not appreciate the results. However, your appearance will gradually improve and after a week or two you will be very well with hardly any visible effects of the intervention.

Techniques

Appearance after rhinoplasty: The patient has a more balanced nose.

Sometimes, if the base of the nose is very wide, it may be necessary to remove small wedges of skin. The incisions are made inside or at the base of the nose, allowing the cartilage and bones of the nose to be remodeled

A splint is placed over the nose during the postoperative period.
