Sculptra

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a dermo-aesthetic facial rejuvenation treatment, in order to recover the structure and elasticity of deep tissues without the need for surgery.

A skin renewal is achieved thanks to the stimulation of the progressive formation of collagen.

It is a material of synthetic origin whose active ingredient is polylactic acid, a powerful collagen stimulator that, being biocompatible, does not produce an allergy reaction. The body eliminates it gradually and completely thanks to the fact that it is biodegradable and reabsorbable by our own body.

Who can use it?

Sculptra can be used by anyone over the age of 30 and without allergy to polylactic acid who needs to increase facial volume in sunken areas, correct folds, eliminate wrinkles, erase scars and avoid sagging skin. In Spain it is applied to the face but, in other countries, it is also applied to the body and neck.

For whom is Sculptra skin treatment contraindicated?

Sculptra is contraindicated in people who have skin inflammations, collagen diseases, severe systemic diseases or autoimmune diseases.

How does it work?

The treatment is carried out in consultation and is completely painless, thanks to the introduction of an anesthetic called lidocaine when reconstituting the product. Sculptra is injected into the dermis and manages to induce collagen formation naturally. An anesthetic cream can be applied to the face and then put the product with a needle or inject anesthetic points and insert a cannula, depositing the implant subcutaneously. To avoid the appearance of granulomas, a massage is performed after application. The patient should do this same massage at home twice a day, for a period of 5 to 10 days.

Generally, two to three sessions of around 45 minutes are necessary to obtain the desired results, with application intervals of 30 to 45 days, depending on the degree of flaccidity or loss of volume of the area to be treated. And, subsequently, maintenance sessions may be necessary.

Recommendations before and after treatment

5 or 7 days before treatment, the patient should not take anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin or ibuprofen. Instead, you can take acetaminophen since it has no contraindications.

The patient can lead a normal life after the procedure, but during the following week it will be very important to continue with the massages in the area that has been treated.

Does it have side effects?

The most common side effects of this treatment are those related to the injection such as pain, redness or bruising that disappear later. A possible effect would be the appearance of small protrusions not visible but palpable.

The results

Sculptra provides a “lifting” effect thanks to the production of collagen fibers. The result is gradual until six months after application and lasts between 9 and 12 months.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Sculptra treatment is compatible with any other procedure such as botulinum toxin, fillers, peels, laser or radiofrequency.
